This trait is a disqualifing fault. This is a recessive gene found in the Rottweiler. It takes both parents with the gene to produce it. The Rottweilers coat should be coarse and poker straight. The coat should not be soft and fluffy as a adult.

DISQUALIFYING FAULTS:

General: Marked reversal of sexual type, i.e. feminine dogs or masculine bitches.
Behaviour: Anxious, shy, cowardly, gun-shy, vicious, excessively suspicious, nervous animal.
Eyes: Entropion, ectropion, yellow eyes, different coloured eyes.
Teeth: Overshot or undershot bite, way mouth; missing one incisive tooth, one canine, one premolar or one molar.
Coat texture: Very long or wavy coat.
Coat colour: Dogs which do not show the typical Rottweiler colouring of black with tan markings. White markings.

Males must have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.

Below is a full blooded Rottweiler adult and youth, not a mix breed.

We DO NOT try and breed long coat Rottweilers. We have seen the trait come out from imports, but then must not breed the same combination again or test for the long coat gene.
